Part I crime is down 14% year-to-date. In real terms that means 169 less crimes and 169 less victims of crime. As of the end of April, Central is down in all Part I categories, including a 26% reduction in robberies and a huge 40% reduction in burglaries.

Bike thefts continue to be a hot problem in the downtown area. Central Detectives are conducting regular sting operations targeting these thieves and have had several good arrests over the past few months.

As we move into the hotter summer months more people will be coming into the downtown area to enjoy the daytime shopping and the nightlife. We are working to step up enforcement in areas that have been shown to result in more serious crime. This include drinking in public taskforces and targeted enforcement on bars and clubs as intoxicated persons have a higher tendency to become victims of crime.
